Additional information, including updates about on-site and virtual programming and events, as well as rental availability of the Garden House, can be found on the website, @KeelerTavernMuseum on Facebook and Instagram, or by emailing [email protected].

Try out historic tools, design a new town layout, and cast your vote for important trades – past, present, and future – at Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center’s (KTM&HC) #HandsOnHistory: It Takes a Village. The exhibition, located in KTM&HC’s Carriage Barn, is included in the cost of site admission and runs through Sunday, November 2.
#HandsOnHistory is one of KTM&HC’s signature programs: an annual series of rotating, interactive exhibits that showcase objects from the museum’s extensive tool collection and explore intersections of history, science, and technology.
Timed with the yearlong commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this year’s #HandsOnHistory exhibition explores how Ridgefielders in the early 1800s pursued the ideals of “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”—not through politics or protest, but through craft, trade, and community interdependence. Just like today, Ridgefielders contributed their own unique skills to help their town grow, meet everyday needs, and build better lives for their families and neighbors.
The exhibition explores this fascinating local history through an emphasis on play and discovery. #HandsOnHistory features fun opportunities to get hands-on with real historic objects – an immersive way to better understand how people in early Ridgefield worked together through their trades.
Access to #HandsOnHistory is included in the price of site admission – or visitors can purchase special Exhibits Only passes. The exhibition is open now through November 2, Thursdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additionally, on Sundays in October and early November, visitors receive free site admission and access to family demonstrations: interactive talks and demonstrations by educators, artisans, and skilled tradespeople.
School and youth groups can book an educator-led tour of the exhibit free of charge! Email [email protected] for more information.
Sponsors play an integral role in our ability to make #HandsOnHistory available to all audiences. Interested in learning more about sponsorship opportunities? Contact KTM&HC Director of Development Jennifer Dineen at [email protected] or 203-438-5485, ext. 16.

Ridgefield Historical Society

The Ridgefield Historical Society’s purpose is to preserve, interpret, and foster public knowledge of Ridgefield’s historical, cultural, and architectural heritage. They are committed to expanding educational opportunities for all ages and serving our community at three sites: the 1714 David Scott House, the 1756 Peter Parley Schoolhouse, and the 1872 Branchville Schoolhouse, as well as in partnership with local institutions.
The Ridgefield History Club is an informal community storytelling program of the Historical Society. The group meets for an hour on the third Tuesday of every month to explore a specific topic in Ridgefield’s history through shared conversation. Each session is recorded and cataloged in the Historical Society’s archive to preserve these stories for future generations. The program is also streamed live on Facebook and uploaded to our YouTube channel.
Everyone is invited, just bring your curiosity and your love of history. Some attend every month, while others join when a topic holds special meaning for them. Longtime Ridgefield residents and newcomers alike are welcome. This free program is a wonderful way to connect with others and discover new insights into our town’s heritage. For more information, contact the Historical Society at 203-438-5821 or [email protected]. Parking and seating at the Scott House are limited, and registration is requested for this free program.

Ridgefield Theater Barn
In 1965, a handful of Ridgefield residents banded together to form a small theater group dedicated to providing community theater. This organization grew into the Ridgefield Workshop for the Performing Arts and is now known as the Ridgefield Theater Barn. Housed in a rustic converted dairy barn leased from the town of Ridgefield, the Barn continues to produce an ongoing series of comedies, dramas, and musicals. We maintain a production schedule of four shows per year, with performers chosen through open auditions. The cast and crew of every show run the gamut from raw amateurs to seasoned professionals.
All participants, whether on stage or off, are volunteers. We are actors, dancers, musicians, seamstresses, carpenters, singers, electricians, and individuals who just offer willing pairs of hands to do anything from painting scenery to taking tickets at the door. Our compensation comes in the form of good times, camaraderie, and the satisfaction gained from learning new things, being part of a team, and staging a quality production. The Ridgefield Theater Barn is excited about its upcoming season—its 60th year! With cabaret seating at candlelit tables, we offer superior entertainment, so BYO refreshments and join us!

This special evening brings together community members and supporters to celebrate inclusion, community, and the power of connection, while raising critical funds for SPHERE’s life-enriching programs.
The 2025 Gala will honor John and Peggy Loehr with the Commitment to Service Award. Longtime champions of SPHERE and dedicated volunteers across numerous local causes, the Loehrs have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to bettering the lives of others. Their ongoing support of SPHERE’s mission, whether through event volunteering, advocacy, or celebrating the achievements of our members, has made a lasting and meaningful impact.
“Our Reach for the Stars Gala is more than a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of what’s possible when people come together with compassion and purpose,” said Lori Berisford, President and Board Chair of SPHERE. “We’re thrilled to honor John and Peggy Loehr, whose selfless service inspires all of us.”
SPHERE empowers adults with developmental, cognitive, and intellectual disabilities by offering social, cultural, and enrichment programs that foster personal growth, joy, and connection. With strong partnerships across the arts and nonprofit sectors, SPHERE members participate in everything from musical theater to community service, building confidence and meaningful relationships along the way.
