Veteran Exemptions
Dear Veteran or Surviving Spouse,
In light of recent legislative changes to the Connecticut General Statutes regarding Veteran exemptions, the office of the Assessor is requesting updated information regarding your disability status with the Veterans Administration (VA), if applicable. Public Act 24-46 allows full exemption of the dwelling, provided it is the primary residence of the veteran, or motor vehicle for eligible Veterans who have a service-connected permanent and total disability rating as determined by the VA. Legislation is in effect as of the October 1, 2024 grand list.
The Assessor is requesting an updated and current 2024 VA Disability Award Letter for Veterans who hold a disability rating through the VA. The Disability Award Letter can be emailed to [email protected] , mailed via regular mail or delivered in person Monday – Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.
You may find your VA Benefit Summary Letter online at va.gov or call the VA office directly 800.827.1000.
In addition, please complete the Veteran Record Information Form.
The current Disability Award Letter and Veteran Record Information form are requested by the Assessors office no later than December 16, 2024 to allow for administrative processing.
We appreciate your patience while we continue to gain an understanding of this new legislation and how it will unfold.
