GETTING MARRIED IN RIDGEFIELD
A marriage license is required to be married in the State of Connecticut and must be obtained from the Town Clerk of the Town where the ceremony will take place.
Couples must apply for a marriage license by filling out:
An appointment is necessary--walk ins are not accepted. Couples must appear in person and provide valid photo ID. Please call 203-431-2783 or email (via the Contact Us link) at least one week prior to your desired appointment date.
At the time of the appointment, couples will take an oath attesting to the information provided and sign the license. The license will be given to the couple who then provide it to the officiant before the ceremony. A marriage license is valid for 65 days, (the ceremony must take place within 65 days of applying for the license).
The cost for the marriage license is $50; certified copies are $20 each. After the marriage ceremony, the license must be returned to the Town Clerk's Office by the officiator who performed the ceremony. The Town Clerk's Office will then issue a certified copy of the Marriage License to the applicants either in person, (if the couple returns to the office), or by mail to the address provided on the Marriage License Request Form.
The Town Clerk’s Office does not perform wedding ceremonies. Following is a list of Justices of the Peace in Ridgefield should you be looking for someone to perform your ceremony: List of Justices of the Peace
