Parks Maintainer
Description: perform heavy manual work and operate equipment in the maintenance of town parks, properties, and grounds as well as the parks and recreation building. Mandatory overtime in winter months.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operates parks maintenance equipment such as loaders, tractors, trucks, mowing machines and athletic field conditioners. Uses hand and power tools.
- Assists in building, repair and routine maintenance of all properties under the jurisdiction of the parks and recreation commission.
- Performs sanding, shoveling, snow blower operations and snow plowing work, often under hazardous conditions of weather and traffic.
- Act as back up for parks maintainer/custodian assigned to the parks and recreation facility (alternate schedule-mornings and/or evenings).
- Performs set up and take down of rooms. Cleans, maintains, and general carpentry and painting of facility.
- Performs specific hortcultral/landscaping work as necessary.
- Other tasks as required by parks and recreation supervisors.
Qualifications: Prior landscaping or maintenance work experience desirable. Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical and plumbing skills helpful.
Physical requirements: May have to lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to climb, lift, push, pull, bend, walk, sit, and carry items. For outdoor activities, must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs without assistance, walk over uneven terrain, sit for long periods of time on lawn equipment, push or pull lawn mowers or other apparatus weighing up to 50 lbs. For inside responsibilities, may have to pull or push floor cleaning equipment up to 50 lbs, must be able to lift and empty garbage receptacles weighing no more than 50 lbs, may have to climb ladders, paint, and reach for items on high shelves or in doorways.
Full-time (40 hours/week)
Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (Summer hours: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM) - Mandatory overtime in winter months
Salary Range:
- with CDL Step I - $34.41/hour (preferred)
- without CDL Step I - $31.57/hour
