Registrar of Voters

Dear Residents,

We would like to take this opportunity to explain the post-election audit process in Connecticut that helps ensure the accuracy and integrity of our elections.

Pursuant to Public Act 07-194, “mandatory post-election hand count audits are to be conducted by Registrars of Voters in five percent (5%) of the voting districts randomly selected to participate.” The purpose of this hand count audit “is to assess how well the optical scan voting machines functioned in an actual election and to ensure that votes cast using these machines are counted properly and accurately.” It is important to note that “this is not a recount where the focus is reviewing each ballot to determine voter intent.” Instead, “the audit tests whether the machines accurately counted ballots that were properly marked.”

On Wednesday, November 12th, Ridgefield’s District 3 (Yanity Gym) was selected as one of the 32 voting precincts to be audited out of the 633 eligible in Connecticut.  On Thursday afternoon, our Town Clerk, Wendy Gannon Lionetti, will randomly select the three races that will be audited.

The Town of Ridgefield will conduct its post-election audit on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. in Town Hall Annex. The audit is open to the public and is legally required to be bipartisan. Ballots from the selected district will be manually reviewed and compared to the machine totals.

We encourage any interested residents to attend and observe this important process. Transparency and public participation are key elements in maintaining trust and confidence in our elections.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Caron and Wayne Floegel
